Bacteria are among the fastest growing and reproducing microorganisms that can be found anywhere in the world. Humanrnhands exchange microorganisms between the skin surface and the environment, picking up and harboring the colonizationrnof pathogenic species such as bacteria in large quantities along the way. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the demand forrnhand sanitizers has sharply increased worldwide as they provide a practical, convenient, effective way to clean humanrnhands from unwanted microbial inhabitants. Hand sanitizers are antibacterial and antiviral liquid cleaning products madernof ethanol and other active compounds capable of sterilizing bacteria-covered surfaces such as human skin by damagingrnbacterial cell membranes. This research was done by conducting a simple practicum through the utilization of householdrntools and materials in formulating bacterial growth medias as well as observing and comparing bacterial colonies thatrninhabited hand palms before and after the usage of hand sanitizers. The practicum was done by comparing bacterialrncolonies on (1) bacterial growth media without human interference, (2) bacterial growth media touched with hand palmsrnbefore the usage of hand sanitizers, (3) bacterial growth media touched with palms after the usage of hand sanitizers. Thisrnresearch aims to investigate the effects of hand sanitizers on bacteria colonizing human hands. Results show that thernbacterial growth in each of the mediums given different treatments presented different numbers of bacterial colonies.rnAbundant bacteria grew on medium that was touched with a palm before applying hand sanitizer while limited bacteriarngrew on medium that was touched a palm after applying hand sanitizer. According to these practicum results, it can bernconcluded that the application of hand sanitizer is effective in reducing the number of bacterial colonies inhabiting handrnpalms. Recommendations for future and further investigations include comparing various hand sanitizer brands to concludernwhich brand produces the most effective hand sanitizers in removing bacteria from human hands.rn
